Jensen Huang just dropped the most consequential laptop chip announcement in a decade. At his GTC Taipei keynote on June 1, the Nvidia CEO unveiled the N1X — a system-on-chip that crams a full RTX 5070-class GPU alongside a 20-core ARM processor into a single laptop package. Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, MSI, HP, and Microsoft are already building machines around it. A GPU Company Just Became a PC Company

Six OEMs, Zero Hesitation
The launch partner list tells you how seriously the industry is taking this. Dell reportedly had an embargoed XPS laptop ready before Huang even took the stage. Lenovo has confirmed multiple N1X designs internally — the Legion 7 for gaming, plus Yoga and IdeaPad Slim models for mainstream and creative users. ASUS teased its ProArt lineup alongside the announcement. MSI, HP, and Microsoft round out the confirmed or strongly indicated launch partners.

The breadth here is deliberate. Nvidia isn’t positioning the N1X as a niche chip for workstations. It’s going after the entire laptop market — from thin-and-light ultrabooks to gaming machines to creative workstations, all from a single platform.
Intel and AMD Have a Bigger Problem Than They Think
When Qualcomm entered Windows laptops, Intel shrugged it off. The app compatibility story was rough, x86 emulation was slow, and developers didn’t bother porting. Intel and AMD could afford to be complacent.
Nvidia changes the math entirely. The app compatibility argument weakens when the chip runs the same CUDA code that developers already wrote for Nvidia’s desktop and server GPUs. The “not enough software support” argument evaporates when the chip inherits the largest GPU software ecosystem on Earth.
And here’s the kicker: Nvidia chose MediaTek to design the CPU cores, not Qualcomm. That’s a deliberate middle finger.
